Liturgical Notes
- The celebration of Vespers of the dead, after that of November 1 is allowed for devotional reasons. A celebration of the Word of God with the theme of prayer for the dead and the resurrection may be held instead.
- On the first eight days of November, the faithful may gain a plenary indulgence by visiting a cemetery and praying for the dead. On the other days of the year, only a partial indulgence is gained.
- On All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, or according to the directives of the Ordinary (Bishop), on the Sunday preceding or following November 2, one plenary indulgence may be gained by visiting a church or oratory and by praying the “Our Father” and the “Creed”, and a prayer for the intention of the Holy Father. This indulgence may be gained from midday of the preceding day to midnight of the day intended.
